Nourishing DIY Body, Hand and Face Oil
I’ve learned a lot about oils in the last year or so especially these powerhouse oils that do amazing things for the skin. You can use them on your body, hair, hands, nails and even you face because most of these oils do not clog your pores (If you are using it on your face, you only need a few drops; a little goes a long way!). You can make this for yourself as a nice treat or as a thoughtful and luxurious gift for someone special. Who doesn’t love a handmade gift?
A couple things before you get started: Properly extracted oils can be expensive and since many of these have very similar properties, you may only want to choose one or two to add to your carrier oil. In addition, make sure the oils you do choose are high quality so they do what they’re intended to do! Also make sure that when you receive these oils, none of them have gone rancid; any company that sends a rancid oil should honor an exchange or refund without a hassle. Lastly, test on your skin for sensitivity before jumping in and making your oil blend.
I bought all my supplies on Amazon, including the bottle. This is what I used:
16 oz. Bottle of Sweet Almond Oil (or your favorite carrier oil) - Sweet almond oil makes a great carrier oil but is also really good for the skin and does not clog pores. Read more about the benefits of sweet almond oil.
8 oz. Bottle of Carrot Seed Oil - Such a powerhouse of an oil with anti-fungal, anti-bacterial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-aging properties (a little higher on the comedogenic scale so if you’re acne prone and want to use this on you face, you may want to skip the addition of this oil. Read more about carrot seed oil benefits.
4 oz Bottle of Red Raspberry Seed Oil - Also an amazing oil with sun protective, anti-aging, anti-inflammatory, anti-acne, non-comedogenic (won’t clog pores) and helps the skin retain moisture. Read more about red raspberry seed oil benefits.
4 oz. Bottle of Rosehip Seed Oil - Moisturizing, hydrating, can reduce hyperpigmentation (due to it’s high vitamin A content), collagen boosting (from vitamin A and C), anti-inflammatory, sun protective and anti-aging. Rosehip oil is also low on the comedogenic scale so it most likely not cause breakouts. Read more about rosehip seed oil benefits.
A Measuring Cup (one that will measure ounces) or you can use a 1 oz. shot glass
A small funnel if your measuring cup does not have spout.
*Optional - add skin-loving sandalwood, neroli, ylang ylang or frankincense essential oils
For an 8 ounce dispenser bottle, I use 4 ounces of the carrier oil (sweet almond, in my case), 2 ounces of carrot seed oil and then 1 ounce each of the red raspberry seed and rosehip seed oils. If you’re using only the carrier oil and one or two of the other oils, try adding more of the carrier oil (6 ounces) and then only 2 ounces of the other oils.
Pour into your dispenser bottle and enjoy! I usually give it a quick, gentle shake before I use it to make sure all of the oils are combined. I store any remaining oils in the fridge to avoid going rancid. You also want to use your oil blend up within 6 months.
